Hever Castle in 1947, images from The Historic England Aerial Photograph Explorer

Hever Castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn. The castle was lovingly restored by William Wardorf Astor (who was then the richest person in Amercia) between 1903 and 1908. William Waldorf’s son, John Jacob, inherited the Castle upon his father’s death in 1919.

It wasn’t until 1963 that Hever Castle first opened to the public, so these Aerial photos from the Historic England collection dated 1947 show the castle still as a private home.
